Dialogue session inside the Iraqi Council of Representatives on Domestic Violence Law
Baghdad Women Association participated by its colleague Lawyer Mrs.Rasha Khalid in a consultative session on “ways to pass the draft law against domestic violence” held by the Committee on Women, Family and Childhood in cooperation with the Human Rights Committee in the Constitutional Hall in the Iraqi Council of Representatives on 5th March 2019, in the presence of a large number of deputies and representatives of concerned government agencies such as the Women’s Empowerment Department in the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior, the directorates of protection against domestic violence, representatives of civil society organizations. During the session there was a reading of the items of the draft law on combating domestic violence, which was completed in 2017 and presented two readings, which weren’t passed due to challenges related to political interactions followed by opening the door to dialogue and listening to interventions and observations of attendance and the possibility of amendment or maintenance of the draft. To a compromise formula of the draft law containing all the views of Islamic and secular party and community.
