Strengthening Advocacy for Women’s Rights and Justice: Skills-Building Training in Ninevah-Qaraqosh under the ‘Building Peace and Stability in Iraq’ Project

As part of the Building Peace and Stability in Iraq consortium, funded by FCDO, skills-building training was successfully conducted on November 13, 2024, in Ninevah-Qaraqosh, targeting 23 social activists (7 men, 16 women). The training focused on enhancing advocacy capacities through mechanisms and steps to implement advocacy campaigns on women’s issues and promoting justice between men and women. The participants gained a comprehensive understanding of how to plan and execute effective campaigns, equipped with the necessary tools to advocate for justice and equality. The training emphasized practical steps for impactful campaigns, encouraging collaboration and networking among activists to foster a collective voice for change. The training highlighted several key challenges for women in Ninewa, including difficulty accessing stable jobs and the rise of digital violence, which limits their participation in public and professional life. Participants also pointed out the growing impact of climate change, particularly on women in isolated areas, who are more vulnerable to environmental shifts.
Participants called for ongoing capacity-building programs, especially in Ninewa, to address these issues and support women’s empowerment.
