BWA Holds Initiative in Ramadi on Women’s Inclusion in Social Protection Programs

As part of its efforts to support women’s issues at the local level, Baghdad Women Association, in partnership with Shams Al-Anbar Organization for Women and Children, held an initiative with decision-makers titled “Mechanisms for Including Women in Social Protection Programs: Challenges -Solutions”, as part of the project “Strengthening Women’s Rights Movements on the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda in three fragile contexts” in partnership with CARE International in Iraq and with funding support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. On April 9, 2025, in Ramadi, Anbar Governorate.

The initiative focused on discussing the challenges women face in accessing social welfare payments and explored practical solutions based on the policy of integrating women’s rights into government plans and policies, ensuring fair and effective inclusion in social protection programs.

The initiative was attended by 20 participants, including representatives of local government, civil society organizations , and women from the local community. Attendees exchanged perspectives on field-level challenges and proposed actionable recommendations to improve access and reduce existing gaps.

This initiative is part of a broader series of activities aimed at promoting social justice and ensuring women’s access to their economic and social rights, as a key step toward their empowerment and active role in society.
