BWA Calls for Stronger Action to Advance Justice and Recovery for Yazidi Survivors

Baghdad Women Association organized a dialogue session to discuss the rights of Yazidi survivors and ways to support justice, accountability, and reparations. The discussion highlighted that recovery cannot depend only on compensation or humanitarian support. Survivors also need justice, psychosocial support, reconstruction, better livelihoods, and stronger social cohesion.

The session included several recommendations, including strengthening the Yazidi Survivors Law, providing sufficient financial resources, expanding health and psychosocial services, finding missing persons, supporting reconstruction in Sinjar, and creating safe conditions for voluntary return. Participants also called for stronger protection and support for women who are not covered by the current law and for appropriate solutions for Yazidi women who had children during captivity.

Baghdad Women Association emphasized the importance of moving from commemoration to action by turning these recommendations into practical measures that protect survivors’ rights, support justice, preserve collective memory, prevent future violations, and contribute to peace and social cohesion in Iraq.
