A voluntary psychosocial legal awareness session

Within “Strengthening Access to Protection, Participation and Services for women Refugees, Internally Displaced People IDPs and women in Host Communities in Iraq” project, funded by the European Union, through the EU Regional Trust Fund in response to the Syrian crisis, the EU ‘Madad’ Fund and implemented by a consortium led by EuroMed Feminist Initiative, #Baghdad_women_association Staff in listening and Consulting center in Dohuk implemented a voluntary psychosocial legal awareness session on 13 January, 2020.

The number of attendees of the session were 10 women and girls, with the aim of increasing the awareness of women and girls on the subject of first aid and issues related to court procedures, as several points were discussed relating to first aid, including (the people who can provide it and the people who need psychological aid, and the places in which it is provided and how to provide assistance in emergency situations, and the principles of psychological first aid), in addition to referring to the legal articles in the Iraqi Personal Status Law of 1959 regarding the registration of the marriage contract in court and the conditions of its validity and acceptance of Before the court, how the agency works and its conditions.

The outcomes of the session were the interaction between women, as the issue of awareness received attention from them, as they often need women and girls for this information. They also praised the importance of learning legal materials that have a direct contact with their lives
