<p>As part of the Iraqi Women Changemakers Project, Baghdad Women Association held the second cohort meeting for women changemakers in Anbar Governorate on 17 June 2026.</p>



<p>The meeting included a review of previous stakeholder engagement meetings and featured a practical simulation exercise designed to strengthen participants&#8217; communication, negotiation, presentation, and advocacy skills. It also provided an opportunity for women changemakers to exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and share lessons learned from their community initiatives.</p>



<p>The cohort meeting aimed to enhance participants&#8217; capacity to engage effectively with local stakeholders and advocate for solutions to community issues. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, the participants further developed the skills needed to lead community initiatives and build constructive partnerships with local institutions.</p>



<p>This activity is part of BWA&#8217;s ongoing efforts to empower women leaders, strengthen their role in addressing community priorities, and promote sustainable, community-driven change across Iraq.</p>

<p>Baghdad Women Association, represented by colleague Alyaa Abdul Kareem, participated in the Roadmap Formulation Workshop (2026–2027) within the framework of protecting electoral processes in the information environment, which was held in Erbil on 14 -15 June 2026 and organized by the Independent High Electoral Commission in cooperation with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).</p>



<p>The workshop brought together representatives from the electoral commission and civil society organizations to jointly develop practical initiatives and strengthen coordination among partners to address challenges related to the information environment, and to enhance cooperation in the areas of electoral awareness-raising, monitoring misinformation, and countering hate speech.</p>



<p>These initiatives contribute to building a shared vision that supports the integrity of the electoral process and promotes informed participation.</p>

<p>Baghdad Women Association (BWA) participated in a workshop held in Erbil under the theme &#8220;Protecting Electoral Processes in the Information Environment.&#8221; The workshop was organized by the International Foundation in cooperation with the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) to discuss and endorse the 2026–2027 Roadmap.</p>



<p>The workshop brought together representatives of the Independent High Electoral Commission, including the Deputy Head of the Electoral Administration for Technical Affairs, directors from the National Office, and representatives of civil society organizations.</p>



<p>Discussions focused on monitoring violent and hate speech related to elections, strengthening cooperation between the Electoral Commission, the International Foundation, and electoral stakeholders, and enhancing the role of civil society organizations in supporting transparent and credible electoral processes. Participants also explored mechanisms for monitoring election-related information, promoting electoral reform, and increasing public awareness of electoral participation.</p>



<p>Through its participation, BWA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen electoral integrity, promote informed civic participation, and enhance cooperation between civil society organizations and national institutions.</p>

<p>Through this partnership, BWA continues to support women Changemakers in developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to advocate for their communities and contribute to building a more inclusive future where women and girls play an active role in shaping positive change across Iraq.</p>

<p>On the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of Baghdad Women Association (BWA), the Association&#8217;s Sinjar Center organized a special community session on 14 June 2026, bringing together 20 women from the local community to celebrate the organization&#8217;s journey and achievements.</p>



<p>The session highlighted BWA&#8217;s work in Sinjar between 2021 and 2026, showcasing the services provided to thousands of women through psychosocial support, community activities, and empowerment programs designed to improve the well-being of women and girls.</p>



<p>Participants also learned about the role of the Community Counseling Center in Sinjar and its contribution to supporting women affected by the 2014 conflict, including survivors. The session featured several success stories that demonstrated the positive impact of the Association&#8217;s work and the resilience of women in the community.</p>



<p>The event also introduced first-time participants to BWA&#8217;s services and programs, providing information on how women and girls can access available support. Participants expressed their appreciation for the Association&#8217;s continued efforts to empower women, strengthen their capacities, and contribute to the well-being of the Sinjar community.</p>

<p>On 14 June 2026, Baghdad Women Association (BWA) celebrated the 22nd anniversary of its establishment, marking more than two decades of dedicated work to promote women&#8217;s rights, gender equality, and community development across Iraq.</p>



<p>Since its establishment on 14 June 2004, BWA has remained committed to supporting women and girls through protection services, advocacy, capacity building, and community-based initiatives. Over the years, the Association has worked alongside women, communities, government institutions, and partners to create safer environments, strengthen women&#8217;s leadership, and advance equal opportunities.</p>



<p>As part of the anniversary celebration, BWA&#8217;s Fallujah Center in Al Anbar reflected on the Association&#8217;s journey and the achievements made possible through the dedication of its staff, volunteers, partners, and the women who have trusted and supported its mission.</p>



<p>This anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the stories of resilience, empowerment, and positive change that have shaped BWA&#8217;s journey. The conference brought together the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, representatives of government ministries, and local and international civil society organizations.</p>



<p>The conference highlighted the importance of strengthening national efforts to combat child labour, raising community awareness of children&#8217;s rights, and promoting legal frameworks that protect children and support family stability. <p>On 21 April 2026, Baghdad Women Association (BWA), through its Sinjar Center and with the support of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), organized a service mapping session that brought together representatives of government institutions and local and international civil society organizations, with a particular focus on the protection and legal sectors.</p>



<p>The session provided an opportunity for participants to present the services they offer, identify target groups and geographic coverage, and strengthen coordination among service providers. It also highlighted the importance of effective referral pathways to ensure that women and girls have timely access to the support and protection services they need.</p>



<p>During the session, BWA reaffirmed its commitment to empowering and protecting women by providing psychosocial support and facilitating access to essential services. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue coordination and collaboration in order to improve service delivery and better respond to the needs of women and vulnerable groups in the Sinjar area.</p>
