Training workshop to build leadership skills and manage advocacy campaigns

Within #we_protect_our_family campaign and ) Promote women’s participation in leadership and decision-making( project, #Baghdad_Women_Association implemented a training workshop to build leadership skills and managing advocacy campaigns in Al-Rasheed hotel – the Southern Hall for three straight days from 8-10 October 2019, funded by Norwegian People’s Aid Organization.

The workshop is a part of the project’s activities aiming at political empowerment for women in a decision making positions, it brought together a number of female MP in the Iraqi Parliamnent of the legal committee and the  Committee of Women, Family and Childhood, the adviser of the President of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Mr. Mohammed  Al-Halbousi, members of provincial councils, female representative of the High Commission of Human Rights with a number of women activists, heads of civil society organizations from the Iraqi Women Network and the alliance of UNSCR 1325, of the lawyers, journalists and academics from Baghdad and the provinces of Salah al-Din, Nineveh, Babylon, Erbil and Dohuk.

The workshop conducted by Dr. Gaith Hamid and Dr. Saad Fatihallah included identifying the advocacy subject, developing solutions and alternatives, networking and building alliances, influencing decision-makers, forming a campaign team and influence the public to gain support. The main outputs of the workshop were to build a sustainable communication mechanisms between women MPs and activists and enable them to find a participatory formula that serves women’s work and promotes the demand for the issues and priorities of Iraqi women and girls.
