Social Protection for widows in Iraq project
Within the project of social protection for widows in Iraq, which is implementing by a group of Iraqi organizations (Baghdad Women’s Association, widows  supporting Center  , Women for Peace organization and Asuda), as they are involved in supporting widows  with national partnership  and supported by Oxfam Britain.
 A representatives of Baghdad Women’s Association visited the Department of Women’s Welfare on September 25, 2011 in order to explain the objectives of the project and the mechanism of cooperation and coordination in joint work with the department, on September 26, 2011 the representatives of the association visited the Partners in the project in order to follow up the work of the project, on 5 October 2011 the representatives of BWA attended a meeting held by Oxfam Britain in Sulaymaniyah for all organizations that working within the project to follow up the progress of the project with partners, and in the meeting they discussed the developments of work about the coordination with  women care Department and the preparations of the Association for the Forum of social protection for widows, and on 24 October 2011 BWA created a group entitled( holistic protection for my family  campaign) on face book site, in order to enable the Association  to communicate with the local organizations working in the field of widows, and at the same time to follow-up with each new in work, on 25 October 2011 BWA attended the conference to launch the campaign “holistic protection for my family” to include all women widows in salary of social welfare in Baghdad, in coordination with the  training and development for widows center and Women for Peace organization with the support of Oxfam at Sheraton Hotel / Ishtar Hall, on November 21, 2011 the association held a forum of social protection for widows in Iraq in order to identify gaps and diagnosis of the challenges that still impede and obstruct the system of social welfare in Iraq, and follow-up  the formulation of recommendations that can contribute to the development of treatments which is necessary to develop the welfare system of widows in Iraq, in addition to form a steering committee Composed of the forum  posts, as they were representatives of civil society organizations, government institutions, media and young people ,to identify gaps and problems faced by widows in Iraq, and to take proposals and recommendations to officials, the Forum was attended by Mrs. Nahida Hamid General  Director of  women care Department/ Office of Prime Minister, Dr. Eman Barzanji Chairman of Women, family and childhood  Committee on in Baghdad, representatives of  Baghdad Provincial Council, municipal councils, representatives of government institutions, representatives of civil society organizations, representatives of the partners in the project and the media to cover the program of the Forum, the total number of participants was 55 participants,  34 women and  21 men

Baghdad Women’s Association held  the first coordination meeting of the  Project Social Protection for widows in Iraq, supported by  Oxfam on January 9,2012 , with the presence of the partner organizations ,  representatives of government agencies ,non-governmental organizations and the media, in order to put the mechanism to provide widows with full support, and to overcome the obstacles faced by their access to social welfare salary, in addition to strengthening the interest about widows, and the drafting of legislation and mechanisms of action to alleviate their problems through the Constitution, international conventions and the laws of religious and humanitarian

Providing literacy and Numeracy services for women in Baghdad Governorate and Karbala Governorate
 Baghdad Women’s Association implemented the project Providing literacy and Numeracy services for women in Baghdad Governorate and Karbala Governorate, supported by Women for Women international in Baghdad and includes areas (Al Sadr City, Bob Al sham and Al Karada District) in order to teach women the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic to their daily lives.BWA implemented the first lecture at Bob Alsham center on July 4,2011 with the presence of 21 participants ,the second lecture was implemented at Al BWA implemented the third lecture at Al Sader city on July, 18, 2011 with the presence of 21 participants, followed by the fourth lecture at Al Sader city on July, 19, 2011, with the presence of 15 participants. 
Sader city  on july 7, 2011 with the presence of 24 participants,BWA implemented the fifth lecture at Bob Alsham center on July 24,2011 with the presence of 24 participants, BWA implemented the sexth lecture at Bob Alsham center on July 26,2011 with the presence of 21 participants،BWA implemented the seventh lecture at Al Sader city on July, 28, 2011 with the presence of 15 participants , The eighth lecture was implemented at Bob Al Sham center on August 17, 2011 with the presence of 24 participants, the ninth lecture was implemented at Bob Al Sham center, on August 22, 2011 with the presence of 25 participants, the tenth lecture was implemented at Bob Al Sham center, on August 21, 2011 with the presence of 25 participants, the eleventh lecture was implemented at Bob Al Sham center, on August 23, 2011 with the presence of 24 participants,the twelfth lecture was implemented at Karbala center, on August 25, 2011 with the presence of24  participants .. 

The thirteen lecture was implemented at Bob Al Sham center on September 5, 2011, with the presence of 50 participants, the fourteen lecture was implemented at Bob Al Sham center on September 6,2011 with the presence of 50 participants, the fifteen lecture was implemented at the center of Al Sader city on September 6,2011 with the presence of 24 participants, the sixteen lecture was implemented at Bob Al Sham center on September 12,2011 with the presence of 50 participants, which was the same target group in the thirteen lecture, the seventeen lecture was implemented at Bob Al Sham center on September 13,2011, with the presence of 50 participants, and it’s the same target group which was in the fourteen lecture, the eighteen lecture was implemented at the center of Al Sader city on September 15,2011 with the presence of 23 participants,The nineteenth lecture was implemented at the Al Sader city center on September 19, 2011 with the presence of 22 participants; the twentieth lecture was implemented at Bob Al Sham center on September 19, 2011 with the presence of the same target group of the thirteenth and fourteenth lecture.

The 21 lecture was implemented at Al Sader city center on September 20, 2011 with the presence of 21 participants,on September 20, 2011 Baghdad women’s Association celebrated the graduation of the target group at the center of Bob al-Sham, and those graduates are dear to our hearts because they are like our mothers and our daughters, as they replaced ignorance with knowledge wishing them to continue learning successfully

 Fighting Against Gender Based Violence In Baghdad
To contribute and ensure a safe environment for women victims of gender based violence in Iraq and for cooperation and work to unite the efforts and work between government agencies and non-governmental, Baghdad Women’s Association is implemented the project Fighting Against Gender Based Violence in Baghdad with the support of the Canadian Organization for Development and Peace on 14 / 4 / 2011. Representatives from the association visited  the Ministry of Human Rights in order to discuss ways to work together, and as of 20/4/2011 BWA  social worker and the lawyer visited the Ministry of State for Women’s Affairs, attended the meeting for the data collection systems of the ministries, “Interior – Justice – Human Rights – Labor and Social Affairs – Health and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers “with civil society organizations working on issues of violence against women, in order to identify data collection systems used by those working on violence against women from the ministries and organizations of the victims or survivors of violence and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of these regimes within the activities carried out by the association during the month of April 2011, three visits of BWA social worker and the lawyer, for several areas of 9 Nissan district, which includes  Ubaidi  / Al Ameen/ New Baghdad/ Al Mamel / Al Kamalea / Al Baladeat and Al Mashtal neighborhoods, the first visit was on April 4,2011, the second visit was on April 13,2011, the third visit was on April 28,2011, they listen to 25 women, and  through these visits the social worker and the lawyer were able to give a social counseling and legal advice for them.within the activities carried out by the association during the month of June 2011, three visits of BWA social worker and the lawyer, for several areas of Al Sader city, which includes   Hay Al Dakhel / Hay Al Falah and Al Juader, the first visit was on June 2,2011, the second visit was on June 11,2011, the third visit was on June 26,2011, they listen to 25 women, and  through these visits the social worker and the lawyer were able to give a social counseling and legal advice for them.Within the activities of the month of June, BWA social worker and the lawyer visited the ministry of Labor and Social affairs to look for cooperation, and to find out about the ministry services which are given to the abused women emerged through applied.Within the activities of the month of June, BWA social worker and the lawyer visited the ministry of Labor and Social affairs to look for cooperation, and to find out about the ministry services which are given to theabused women ,Within the activities of June, there were three visits of BWA social worker and the lawyer for several areas, within Al Karrada district, which includes (Hay Al Read/ Hay Al Wahda/Camp Sara/Al Wathiq square), the first visit was on 3/6/2011,the second visit was on 15/6/2011, and the third visit was on 26/6/2011, the social worker and the lawyer did listen to the abused women, and they were able to give  social counseling and legal advice for them,Within the activities of July, three visits of BWA social worker and the lawyer for several areas, which is (Sadat Al Ameen/ Sjin Al Nesaa/ New Baghdad/ Muasqar al rashed), the first visit was on 4/7/2011, the second visit on 17/7/2011, and the third visit was on 27/7/2011, the social worker and the lawyer did listen to the abused women, and they were able to give social counseling and legal advice for them, and the lawyer have tow legal representation for twowomen of them, Within the activities of August, tow visits of BWA social worker and lawyer to Al Huria Park, the first visit was on August 10, 2011, the second visit was on August 25, 2011, they listen to 26 survivors women from gender based violence, and the social worker with the lawyer gave a social counseling and a legal advice for them,Within the activities of September, tow visits of the social worker and the lawyer for many sectors of Al sader city, which includes the sectors70,71,74,75,33, the first visit was on September 8,2011,the second one was on September 11,2011,through these two visits the social worker and the lawyer were able to listen for 24 survivors women from gender based violence, and they provided them with a social counseling and a legal advice, in addition to directing a legal representation for some of their cases.
 Baghdad Women’s Association held a training workshop under the title “Promoting capabilities of service providers for abused women in  social and legal listening and counseling centers, within the project ” Fighting Against Gender Based Violence in Baghdad “from September 16, 2011 until September 18, 2011, at Women Empowerment Organization, the training workshop attended by representatives of civil society organizations, Baghdad provincial council, local and municipal councils , Ministry of Education, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in addition to representatives from the supreme council for women’s affairs.

Evaluation of the project Over the duration of the project, our center received 150 abused women, they were able to take advantage of the social, health and legal services produced for them by the centre, as well as taking the benefit from the courses that were held in order to rehabilitate and strengthen their capacity to face the phenomenon of violence, for more information press here.

Together To Raise Awareness About Women’s Rights
Baghdad Women’s Association is implementing the project together to raise awareness about women’s rights for the period from May 1, 2011 until October 31, 2011 with the support of the Global Fund for Women to educate the target group to the international conventions on women’s rights and introduced to the concept of discrimination against women in accordance with the Convention on the Elimination of Violence against Women and the reservations of Iraq to the agreement And legal achievements of the Iraqi women and finally identified discrimination against women in Iraqi law in the area: the Personal Status Law, the Nationality Law and the Penal Code. BWA implemented the first workshop on June 18, 2011 at the Association, attended the training workshop a number of leading women’s in none governmental organizations, political parties, municipal and local councils in addition to representatives from government ministries and from press to cover the program of the workshop. The workshop program focused on several important topics were the political rights of women and the constraints and challenges which face them, in addition to the conventions and international conferences specializes in women’s rights in order to build the capacity of this group and make them aware of their roles.

BWA implemented the second workshop on July 23, 2011 within the project, the training program discussed many subjects about women’s quota in terms of meaning, types and forms, in addition to the advantages and disadvantages of the quota system, 30 women participated in the workshop, representing women from the province of Baghdad, local municipal councils, Ministry of Labor and civil society organizations

 Supplementary Bridges Project
 Baghdad Women’s Association is implementing the project bridges the supplementary to raise women’s awareness of the importance of their participation in the activities of public life, by enabling 60 young women (age group 18-31 years) of political parties – civil society – local councils and local universities and media through involve them in programs Training to enhance their skills in building peace and human rights concepts and the rate of four training workshops carried out an information session at the project March 5, 2011 in the presence of 25 women from the “civil society organizations, political parties and the media” and on 19 March 2011 BWA carried out the first workshop with 15 young women, in  23,April,2011 the Association carried out the second workshop with 15 young women, and in 14May,2011 BWA carried out the third workshop with 15 young women.BWA implemented its fourth and final workshop with 15 young women in June 16,2011at Al Taqadum Center For Women.

The association launched  a special forum for the participants of the project,  on June 25, 2011 and who are considered one of the main pillars on which the community depends on them in  changing for the better, by instilling positive values in young women, and prepare them through practical training and appropriate rehabilitation , in order to make them able to participate in the development of their country, they confirmed the necessity of activating the initiatives of young creative that benefit their communities, and work through the dissemination of awareness among young women the importance of peace through technical, cultural  and social programs, which are of significant impact in mainstreaming the concept of accepting the other, and  other concepts that enrich the ultimate meaning of peace. In conclusion, a questionnaire was distributed, to evaluate the project.                                                                                      

Baghdad Women’s Association implemented tow theater shows of the play (Lady of the ages) within the project “Bridges supplementary” supported by KTK, the first show was on December 18, 2011 at Al Rusafa professional school for girls, and the second show was on December 27, 2011 at the University of Baghdad / College of Science for Girls. The play, written by Mr. Qudaama Al Malah and directed by Mr. Mustagab Al Basri, a group of young talent actors participated in the play, in order to shed light on the role of youth in peace-building, and to shed light on the phenomenon of violence against women and girls.
 also on Thursday, December 29, 2011 there was an implementation of a free drawing at the college of Law / University of Baghdad, by the participation of five young women as they have expressed through their drawing the role of women in building society and their point of view about peace

BWA implemented an evaluation session for the project  Bridges  second phase, on December 31,2011, at the association center ,with the presence of BWA staff and Mr. Mustajab Al Basrie the play director , Mr. Mohammad Sami  director assistant, and Dr. Nedhal Naser Al Hussanawie from Univercity of Baghdad/ college of Law to evaluate the project activities.
