BWA holds awareness session on “Child Labour”

Listening and Consulting Center in Duhok held an awareness session on “Chilad Labour” in the village of Seiji in Duhok governorate on 8th of July 2019.

The session was held within the framework of the project “Strengthening the resilience of Syrian women and girls and host communities in Iraq”, supported by UN Women and the European Trust Fund (MADAD).

The session, presented by the centre’s lawyer Cihan Hussein and case management official Midea Ahmed, was attended by 13 women and girls from Dumiz 1 camp.

This activity comes as part of a series of legal awareness sessions on child labor and role of mothers in caring for their children, especially after the growth in the number of child laborers and girls escaping from their families in the camp.

The aim of the activity was to familiarize participants with the legal constraints on the work of children under Iraqi Labor Law No. (37) for the year 2015, focusing on physical and psychological harm caused to children.

Participants in the session discussed examples of children working in the camp with tips given to mothers on the need to establish trust between them and their children.
