A national forum on the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda was held in Erbil, with the participation of local and international organizations and representatives from governmental institutions. The event aimed to strengthen women’s role in decision-making and peacebuilding in Iraq. It was organized by CARE Iraq in partnership with civil society organizations from the implementing partners BWA, BWO, and WEO, and participating organizations from the governorates of Anbar, Nineveh, and Salah Al-Din, with the presence of representatives from CARE Egypt.

Participants discussed key lessons learned from implementing WPS programs at the local level. The sessions focused on showcasing provincial experiences and exchanging expertise in advocacy, policy development, and capacity-building for local organizations in protection, conflict resolution, and responding to community needs of women and girls.

The event also featured presentations of locally-led initiatives supported by the project’s partners, which contributed to enhancing women’s participation in community dialogues and developing advocacy tools that help improve policies and services provided to women in conflict-affected contexts.

These efforts reaffirm the partners’ commitment to continuing their support for women and civil society organizations, ensuring meaningful participation in peace processes and shaping a more just and secure future for women and girls in Iraq.
